Domaine of the Bee is the personal Roussillon project of Master of Wine Justin Howard-Sneyd and his wife Amanda, and their friend Philippe. Based on four hectares of very (60-100 y.o.) Grenache and Carignan vines, they describe themselves as 'a tiny producer of enormous reds'. And now, with the help of their winemaking friend Jean-Marc Lafage, they make a little white and rosé as well.

Justin spent 3 years travelling the world as a cellar rat / assistant winemaker in South Africa, Hungary, Romania, Bordeaux and the Loire Valley before moving into the commercial side of wine as a buyer. After 16 years working for Safeway, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Direct Wines, Justin has moved back to his winemaking roots, working with 4 hectares of old vine Grenache and Carignan in the Roussillon for his Domaine of the Bee project. Justin also works with a grower in Ross-on-Wye to produce an English Sparkling wine called Hart of Gold.

Jean-Marc and his wife Eliane run the family Domaine in the Roussillon. Together they have grown the business to look after more than 200 hectares of vines in some of the Roussillon's most prestigious terroirs in Maury, Les Aspres and near Canet. Jean-Marc cut his teeth working in the New World, in South Africa and Chile, and is a highly regarded consultant to projects in Spain, as well as being one of the Roussillon's most highly awarded stars.

Our Bee Pink was first produced in the 2015 vintage, using grapes grown in the Roussillon region by Jean-Marc Lafage. We are aiming to produce a Provence-style rosé with plenty of freshness and expressive fruit flavour.

Pure Carignan from the 80 year old La Roque vineyard at Domaine of the Bee. Low yielding, concentrated and vibrant.

In 2015, we produced a couple of barrels of Carignan that were so delicious that we decided to bottle one of them separately, to pay tribute to this amazing grape. When the vines are very old, and the yields are very low, Carignan can approach extraordinary levels of quality, and Single Barrel 14 is the best Carignan that we have made. Only 294 bottles made!

The Bee-Side is Domaine of the Bee’s second label wine.  We are looking for a softer, lighter, more perfumed expression that veers more towards Pinot Noir than Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Made from 100% Grenache from our Coume de Roy and Bac de Genievres vineyards and as demand grows, from increasing proportions of Grenache from Domaine Lafage.

The result is a wine with a harmonious blend of delicate yet expressive red fruits with hints of fennel and rosemary.


The Bee-Side Grenache

Our ultra-rare single vineyard wine, only made in the best years. 

The oldest of our three vineyard blocks is in Maury's famous side valley - the Coume du Roy - and the vineyard is approaching 100 years old. The yields are laughably low, and the only reason why we don't pull out the vines is because of the incredible flavours that these grapes give us. "Les Genoux" means The Knees, which we felt was an excellent name for Domaine of the Bee's top cuvée....

Our flagship cuvée, and the wine that made us famous - we have made this every year since 2007 (except in 2014, when we felt that the quality wasn't up to it). We feel that Domaine of the Bee is a classic example of Maury terroir - very old vine Grenache and Carignan with ridiculously low yields and great concentration, and is a wine for lovers of BIG REDS - it usually weighs in between 14-15%, and that's the way we like it!

Grenache Gris-Grenache Blanc Blend

White

Our delicious white is made from several parcels of ancient vines belonging to Jean-Marc Lafage, some of them over 100 years old. These grapes – local heroes Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc (with a little bit of Roussanne) produce a wonderfully soft, likeable white.
